Below are the most frequently asked questions that we hear from our new clients. We’ve tried to be as helpful as possible in the answers we have given. However, if anything is unclear, we’re always happy to answer your specific questions individually.
Yes, you can, but you need to choose one with a speaker designed for bathrooms, which is resistant to water and humidity. The speaker is normally recessed into the ceiling, but if this is not possible then it can be wall mounted or fitted into bathroom furniture.
This is the most common, simply pair your phone or other device with the speaker and start playing music. The speaker can have a built-in amplifier, or the amplifier can be remote or lay alongside in the ceiling. The amplifier will need a power feed. The system is easy to fit and will provide good music at a budget price.
Smart speakers like Amazon Echo or Google Nest can be used but provide difficulties in placement and connection. They require a charging feed (5v) via a connection to a mains feed. Mains feeds must be remote from the bathroom. The device must be placed in a safe, dry location, but a cupboard may stop your voice commands being heard. For these reasons they are not the most convenient to fit. Voice control speakers can be used in any room, but the bathroom is an ideal location. No need to take your phone in the bathroom, and it’s easy to control while you are in the shower! Just say “Alexa play"
New on the market are two ideal solutions.
An amplified, wall mounting keypad is equipped with Alexa voice control. The keypad wires to ceiling mounted speakers of your choice, to provide high quality music. The unit controls by Alexa, or Spotify App and other streaming services. It can be operated in multi-room mode. Best fitted in a bathroom build or refurbish, its very easily operated, allows a choice of speakers and provides high quality sound.
E300A is a Wi-Fi-enabled, in-ceiling-installed hi-fi amplifier that can form the centre of a smart home eco-system. Combining the company’s renowned sonic expertise with the convenience of Amazon Alexa voice control, the easy install E300A is the latest example of Q Acoustics’ peerless ability to design class-leading, high-performance audio systems. Best installed in a new or refurbish room it can be simply controlled on your phone/tablet or using the voice control.
Please lean on our experience to propose a Bathroom audio solution to fit discreetly in your room, provide great sound, be simple to control and match your budget.
This will depend on several factors, including:
Larger rooms generally require larger speakers to fill the space with sound adequately. Smaller rooms may become overwhelmed by large speakers, leading to a boomy sound.
If you primarily listen to music with a lot of bass, you might consider larger speakers or a dedicated subwoofer. For more balanced listening or dialogue-heavy content like movies, smaller speakers might be sufficient.
Consider where you'll place the speakers. Floor-standing speakers are typically larger and require more space, while bookshelf speakers can be placed on stands or shelves. For new build or refurbishment where cable can be run in the ceiling, then Ceiling speakers are the most popular, taking up no space and being discreet to the décor. Choose speakers that complement your room's décor and fit well within the available space. The listening area will also play a key role, where the speakers will be placed to deliver an even stereo split to a single listener, or set in a compromise to cover multiple listeners.
Larger speakers tend to be more expensive than smaller ones, but there is a huge range of speaker types and budgets. Rolls Royce speakers will give you an exceptional ride, but don’t discount the Ford Fiesta, which may well get you there just as well, at a very different cost.
Lean on our experience to recommend speaker type, size, quantity and position, to provide quality sound appropriate for your room, its décor and your budget.
Multiroom audio lets you stream music across your home, allowing seamless control and synchronised sound in different rooms. You can enjoy your favourite music anywhere in your home.
Bluetooth: Best for quick, simple setups and portable music. Great for small spaces or when you don’t need multiple speakers.
Wi-Fi: Best for whole-house audio with features like multi-room syncing and smart control. Great for larger spaces or when you want music in every room.
So, if you want an easy, portable solution, go for Bluetooth. But if you’re looking for a full-home sound experience, Wi-Fi is the way to go!
It can be, most multiroom audio systems are setup with step-by-step instructions via an app. However, what’s not as easy is designing the system. This requires years of experience; we can create a design for new build or home renovations which includes wiring and speaker placement so you can get the best performance from your equipment.
Ceiling speakers can sound really good, but they’re a bit different from bookshelf or floor standing speakers. Since they’re installed in the ceiling, they create more of an ambient, spread-out sound that fills the room. This is great for background music or for a clean look without bulky speakers.
On the other hand, bookshelf or floorstanding speakers tend to deliver a more direct, focused sound and can produce deeper bass and clearer details, especially in larger spaces. So, while ceiling speakers are fantastic for a subtle, smooth listening experience, bookshelf and floorstanding speakers might offer a bit more punch and depth for audiophiles or people who really want to hear every detail in the music. It all depends on what kind of sound you’re after!
Yes, in fact that’s the easy bit. With any multiroom audio system you can play different music in every room, you require an amplifier or active speaker per zone. The difficult part is designing the system so they all play the same. We like to call this “party mode”. Get in touch and we can help design a system to suit your requirements.
There are many different brands each having their own functions and quirks. Some you may require, some you may not. It's best to have a conversation with our technicians to find out which system would be best for you and meet your requirements and budget.
The simple answer is an app, all systems have a free downloadable app that you can control your multiroom audio system with. Some audio systems will pair with voice services like Alexa or Google Home and we can even pair your audio system with a home automation system to give you control from dedicated touch screens, keypads and remotes. We can listen to your requirements and find the system that best fits your needs.
Yes, depending on the system you may already have installed or if you’re setting up a new system we have products to suit your patio or decking area, even ones that are suitable for the Hot Tub area.
Since most multiroom audio systems connect to your home network, the security really depends on how strong and secure your network is. We can help you set up a reliable and secure network to make sure your devices and data stay safe while you enjoy your music throughout your home.
You can get started with a multiroom audio system for just a few hundred pounds with a smart speaker. If you're looking for something more immersive, our budget-friendly WiFi systems with central amplifiers and ceiling speakers start at £400 per room. For a premium experience, a Sonos system with high-quality ceiling speakers is £949 per room.
Not sure which option is right for you? We’re happy to help! Whether it’s about the streaming services you use or finding speakers that match your room’s style, we’ll guide you to the perfect setup.
A home cinema is a dedicated space designed to replicate the movie theatre experience, often featuring a large screen, surround sound, and controlled lighting. In contrast, a media room is a versatile space used for various activities likewatching TV, gaming, or listening to music, typically integrated into a common living area.
Not necessarily. Home cinemas can be tailored to fit various room sizes. The key is to optimise the space with appropriate equipment and seating to ensure an immersive experience. We can create a design and pick equipment to suit any room. Send us a message and we would be happy to talk you through the process.
Absolutely! Media rooms are designed to be flexible and can seamlessly blend into existing living spaces, allowing you to enjoy high-quality audio-visual experiences without dedicating a separate room. We can create a design and pick equipment to suit any room. Send us a message and we would be happy to talk you through the process.
A basic home cinema setup typically includes a large-screen display (such as aprojector and screen or a large TV), a surround sound system (Amplifier, Speakers and Subwoofer), and a source for your media, like a Blu-ray player or streaming device. We are happy to help you pick out ther equipment to suit your space and requirements.
Yes, modern home cinemas and media rooms often feature smart home integration, allowing you to control various functions like lighting, sound, and media playback directly from your smartphone or tablet. However talking from experience, this is a bit of a gimmick and we would always suggest a dedicated hard button remote for any of our media rooms or dedicated home cinema rooms.
Yes, many systems offer in-wall or in-ceiling speakers that provide excellent sound quality while remaining discreet and preserving the aesthetics of your room. Our dedicated home cinema rooms can feature fabric-stretched walls that keep speakers hidden while allowing every sound to pass through flawlessly. Another possibility is to have speakers that are plastered over, this technology has come on leaps and bounds over the years and offers a great solution where aesthetics is a real concern.
There are a few different cables to consider when wiring for a home cinema. Firstly, speaker wiring and speaker positioning we would consider to be the most important. Then, you have your subwoofers, this cable would depend on whether they were Active or Passive subwoofers. We then have our video cable which is HDMI, but distance of the cable would determine what type we use.
Yes, we offer preventative or reactive servicing for all the systems we offer. Get in touch with us and we will listen to the issues you’re having and make suggestion on the best way forward.
The installation timeline varies based on the project's complexity. A simple media room setup might take a few days from design to completion, while a customised home cinema could take several weeks to complete. If time is critical to your project, get in touch and we would be happy to help. Our aim is to meet budget and be on time with every project.
The cost varies based on the complexity and quality of the setup. Media rooms can be more budget-friendly, starting from around £4,000, while dedicated home cinemas might begin at £10,000 and can increase depending on customisation and equipment choices.
It’s to make home life more convenient.
Lighting is a great example! Imagine a space with spotlights, island pendants, accent cupboard lights and wall lights. In the past, you would adjust five separate dimmers to set the perfect mood. To recreate it would always be difficult. Now, one button press can instantly recreate that ideal scene every single time. Home automation is what makes a home “smart”.
It can automate your morning routines. Wake you up to a soft-light, then raise the spot lights, the curtains draw open, your favourite radio station starts in the background through the ceiling speakers and all while your head is still on the pillow.
You are rushing out the door, TVs are still on, kids have left the music on and lights around the house are on. But, by the front door is an “Exit-ALL OFF button”. A single press and it turns everything off.
Maybe there is also an option for Mocupancy! This is where general routines, like curtains being drawn at dusk and TV’s turned on, mimic the house being occupied.
At dinnertime, everybody is upstairs. Walk over to the touchscreen and do an intercom call upstairs to call people down to the dinner table, rather than bellowing from the bottom of the stairs.
Your CCTV is linked to your phone, it sends you notifications when a person or vehicle enters the property. You will know when the mails arrived, the kids are home from school or if there are any unwanted visitors lurking around.

The short answer is yes. With regards to heating and lighting, they are controlled automatically, dependant on specific programming. Having this automated correctly will save energy.
Firstly, network cabling to hard wired fixed equipment, such as network devices, TV’s and AV equipment. Speaker wiring and speaker positioning. Mains wiring for items such as lights, window coverings, thermostats. Control cabling for sensors and keypads.
Please use our experience to design a sound cabling network, it is the backbone to your Smart Home.
The hardware is contained in a central rack with the cabling scheme connecting to devices in each room.

A commercial audio system is designed to provide sound across areas such as shops, salons, restaurants, bars, hotels, offices, classrooms, warehouses, places of worship, etc. It provides music and/or announcements, creating the right atmosphere, while also being able to provide communication. It could be as simple as a background music system in a small cafe or as intricate as a phased voice evacuation system in a shopping centre. We have wide experience with commercial systems, please contact us to talk through your requirements.
Implementing a commercial audio system can lift the atmosphere for customers and staff by playing background music or making important announcements. It helps set the desired mood, improves customer experience, and ensures everyone hears essential information.
Yes, with a multi-zone audio system, you can play different music or adjust volume levels in various areas (zones) of your business. For example, you might have lively music in the dining area, a softer ambience in the offices, and voice call in the warehouse.
A 100V line system is a simple and effective way to spread sound across large spaces like restaurants, offices, warehouses, schools, and airports. Unlike low impedance speakers that can lose power over long distances, a 100V system lets you connect multiple speakers without loss of power, across a large area. This keeps the sound clear and balanced while making installation hassle-free and efficient.
Dante stands for Digital Audio Network Through Ethernet. It’s a means of transmitting high quality audio over a buildings network infrastructure. Because all devices share the same network, signals can be sent securely between any device no matter where they are located, with no change to the wiring. Dante systems are easily expanded, by just connecting additional devices to any available network jack. It’s a global standard and has been implemented in over 4000 products from over 600 manufacturers.
A hearing loop system is designed to help people with hearing aids hear more clearly in public spaces. It works by transmitting sound directly to hearing aids, reducing background noise and making speech easier to understand. Public buildings, such as shops, theatres, and banks, are required to have hearing loops to ensure accessibility for those with hearing impairments, making spaces more inclusive and compliant with equality regulations.
To know this we require the specification of what’s currently installed. The model number of the amplifier and how many speakers are connected. For more complex systems this may require a site visit for an impedance check on the loud speaker lines to confirm the current load. Get in touch if you are wanting to extend your current audio system or make any kind of upgrades. Adding speakers without checking the load, runs the risk of damage to the amplifiers.
Yes, we certainly can. We’ve seen many Commercial audio systems over the years, some installed perfectly, some not so perfect. We’re happy to get involved no matter the condition of your system. We can offer reactive and preventative servicing to meet your needs. Get in touch to book us in.
The right microphone depends on the use. Here are some common types:
- Paging microphones – Ideal for making announcements in larger spaces. These can be single-zone or multi-zone, allowing you to choose where messages are broadcast. They are usually tabletop or wall-mounted with a push-to-talk button.
- Installed microphones – Perfect for boardrooms or conference rooms, these microphones have a wider pickup range, allowing speakers to move freely while still being heard clearly.
- Handheld microphones – Often used in places of worship or performance spaces, these can be dynamic or condenser types. They are typically placed on stands and can capture speech, instruments, or choirs.
- Wireless microphones – Available as handheld or clip-on (tie-clip/lapel). These allow complete mobility, making them great for presenters, speakers, or performers who need to move around while talking.
Each type of microphone has a specific design suited to different environments. We’re happy to help you find the best option for your needs!
